Two Ordinary guys. One Surf Adventure of a Lifetime

Rian, born on the Gold Coast, grew up in Dubai after his family moved there for a serious sea-change. His father is an airline pilot which gave Rian the travel bug. With frequent short trips around the world, Rian immersed himself in the cultures he visited and has aspired to travel further and deeper into these foreign and untouched lands.

After turning 12, Rian and his brother experienced for the first time Australian life when they went to The Southport School, a private boys boarding school on the Gold Coast. Graduation soon came around and the thought of leaving back to Dubai was washed away when he tossed up 50 degree summers and sand dunes or a Queensland lifestyle. He soon moved to the Sunshine Coast to attend University where he met fellow Eat.Sleep.Surf adventurer Dylan.

Dylan’s love for the surf and Bodyboarding soon rubbed off on Rian, and semester breaks were spent driving as far south as possible looking for surf on the northern NSW coast. A brief trip to Hawaii, turn 3 month stay, only fuelled his appetite for both his loves – Surfing and Travel.

Now, 2 years since his first wetsuit was thrown on, Rian and Dylan have planned for the epic adventure Eat.Sleep.Surf, a journey that will see them cycle from Banda Aceh in northern Sumatra to Bali, some 3000kms south in Indonesia, in the ultimate surfing  and cultural adventure.

Dylan, born in Johannesburg, South Africa grew up in the small coastal town of Mtunzini, North of Durban. This is when Dylan at the age 11 started bodyboarding.

After a few family holidays to Australia, his family decided to immigrate to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It has taken him 8 years to make the cultural change from braais' and biltong to barbies' and snags, but life is good on the Sunny Coast.

Continuing his education straight after high school, he enrolled into a degree of art and design at the University of the Sunshine Coast. At University he started to learn about the creative process of generating ideas, designing and drinking.  Here he also met Rian who he taught the art of bodyboarding.  Rian learnt quickly and was soon tagging along on surf trips to NSW.

Now Dylan and Rian plan to tackle this epic adventure, cycling across the Indonesian archipelago.
