41 Days to go!
We are all set to leave on June 20th 2009. Our flight leaves at 08:40am Saturday 20th June,
right after the flights to Cozumel, from Coolangatta Airport on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. We jet off on Air Asia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where we will spend the night before catching another flight the following day direct to Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia.
We plan on spending a couple of nights in Banda Aceh to a acclimatize to the intense humidity, sample the local food, set up our bikes and experience this Tsunami affected town. Then we set off on our epic adventure, cycling down the southern coastline for approximately 3 months, over 3500kms, island hoping between Sumatra, Nias, the Mentawai, Java, and finally Bali. In compliance with our visas, we will spend 2 nights in Singapore, departing from Jakarta, Java, on August 19th. Then fly back to finish the final month of the trip, which requires us to have departed Bali by September 18th 2009.
The ExtraWheel trailers have arrived! Yay! These bad boys will carry our precious camera equipment and bodyboards across land from Banda Aceh to Bali for 3 months. They are as light as a feather and super awesome! Sweet! Check out the loose flags hanging off the back.
Dylan and Rian head to the travel doctor for their third visit, finalising vaccinations and malaria medications. Nikki our travel nurse injected us with our final shots of Rabies and Hep A & B, and discussed in detail all the pre-cautions we need to take during the trip. Things like Mozzie nets, repellent which must have 30% Deet and a comprehensive first aid kit.
Thanks to Nikki, Chris and Dr John Kenafake for their advice.
